Camp Douglas, the western gateway to Juneau County, Wisconsin started as a railroad settlement and logging & lumber community in the mid-1850's. The declining railroads after World War II gave way to the rise of highways and today Interstate 90-94 runs beside Camp Douglas.

Biking along the Omaha Bike Trail is a popular recreational activity and rental bikes are available. Other local recreation among the rugged rock formations and eye-catching terrain of the area includes Mill Bluff State Park, Nelson Park and local fishing.

Camp Douglas is home to Volk Field Air National Guard Base, which houses the the Wisconsin National Guard Museum.
